Valentine’s Day is fast-approaching and a local flower distributor based in Plymouth is gearing up for the big rush.

“We are knee-deep in roses and rose petals and gypsophila,” said Georgia Edgington, the lead floral designer at Len Busch Roses. “We’re all excited because it’s Valentine’s Day and it’s the time to give flowers, especially roses, very popular. And we’ve got roses coming in and going out, constantly. It’s just non-stop at this point.”

Len Busch Roses in Plymouth provides flowers to supermarkets and small retail shops throughout the five-state region. It takes in flowers from other parts of the world, arranges bouquets for clients and ships them out to stores in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota and South Dakota. The lead-up to Valentine’s Day is its busiest time of year.

Staff members from Len Busch Roses prepared floral arrangements a week before Valentine’s Day.

While the COVID-19 pandemic has created some supply chain issues, it hasn’t slowed their output. In fact, sales at Len Busch Roses are “through the roof” this year.

“This year, what we’re seeing with COVID is that people are staying in, either practicing more safety regulations, and the restaurants are only able to be at 50 percent, if that,” Edgington said. “So people are actually choosing to stay more remote at home, to cook at home, do more fun things at home. And they want flowers.”

Once they finish with Valentine’s Day, Len Busch Roses will immediately start prepping for Easter and Mother’s Day.
