The Flower Shop in Glencoe is at it again.
The downtown Glencoe business will be celebrating Pride Weekend with another special balloon display and event tomorrow, Saturday, June 26, at 693 Vernon Ave.
Owner Brooke Lawler told The Record she’s partnering with Balloons by Tommy and artist Ann Latinovich for the event. It will run alongside the Glencoe Sidewalk Sale that’s happening on the same day.
“Wait until you see what we have planned for this year!! It has been a long year, guys. We need celebrations! And hugs!!” a social media post from the business says.
In the past, The Flower Shop has set up large, colorful displays for Pride, Valentine’s Day and other special occasions outside its shop that arch over its awnings and cover the windows.
The shop’s latest installation was previously covered by The Record in April, when Lawler thanked the community for its support during the pandemic with what she called a “floral bomb.”
Artist Latinovich created a custom piece of the floral bomb, which will be unveiled at Saturday’s event.
“She will be auctioning that off to the highest bidder and selling 25 prints of it available on her website,” Lawler said in an email to The Record. “All of those proceeds will also be going to charity.”
According to Lawler, in addition to the balloons and artwork this Saturday, the shop will also be hosting giveaways and a contest on social media, where people tag the business in their photos and they can win prizes.
After the installation and event, “we donate money as part of our pride with purpose,” Lawler said.
Locally, other North Shore businesses are offering specials during Pride Month, like Three Tarts Bakery and Cafe at 301 N. Happ Road.
The Northfield bakery shared a photo of its rainbow cake on Instagram with the caption: “Fly the rainbow flag proud.”
In Chicago, Pride in the Park returns Saturday-Sunday, June 26-27. Details can be found here.
Pride Month typically culminates with a large parade this weekend in Chicago; however, it is delayed until Oct. 3 this year. Chicago Pride Fest also remains postponed with a possible return in September or October, according to the Chicago Pride website.
