Camilla Gaines started working at a silk flower shop at 16.
On Friday, she will open Gaines Floral Enterprises at 422 Second Ave. N., across from Zachary’s.
Gaines’ boutique specializes in silk flower arrangements for funerals and memorial services. However, each week she will showcase “spotlight” specials, which will include live flower arrangements for birthdays, anniversaries and more.
“My family and I have lost some very close relatives over the last couple years,” Gaines said. “I just want to extend the same grace and compassion to families going through the same thing. … I want to be that spark of joy during a dark time for them as well as joining in the celebration of anniversaries, birthdays and get-well celebrations as well. I really want to show the same love that we’ve received.”
Gaines Floral Enterprises will be open Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

After more than 25 years, Gerald Banks is stepping away from Factory Direct Home Furnishings.
Banks first opened the furniture store at 996 Gardner Blvd. in 1995. Today marks Banks’ last day selling furniture in Columbus.
“It’s sad to leave, but I want to do something different,” Banks said. “I just don’t know what that is yet.”
Though Banks is moving on from furniture, Eric Thomas is taking over the furniture store on Gardner Boulevard.
“I’ve known (Gerald) for more than 20 years and he told me he wanted to retire,” Thomas said. “I kind of wanted to do my own thing and own my own business. The opportunity presented itself and I had to take advantage of it.”
Check out the new ownership at Factory Direct Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
