CAMBRIDGE — The eggs of the mother Mallard duck that made her nest in the flower bed of a home on Stiles Circle had just started to hatch at press time last week.
Annie Mae Murray said the ducklings began hatching under her front window about 4 p.m. June 8. Five of the 11 eggs hatched.
“The mother duck sat with them around her until rained; then she gathered them under her wings,” Murray said.
The duck sat there all night. Then the next day, about 6:30 a.m., the mother duck gathered up her ducklings and moved them down the street, leaving the six unhatched eggs behind.
“It was a five-week journey, worth waiting and watching to see the outcome for the mother duck and her eggs,” Murray said.
