A bear cub wandered into the Flower Bin on Nelson Road in Longmont on Sunday afternoon and was last seen heading east at Golden Ponds.
Longmont police officer Chrystie Wheeler said a resident of the Southmoor Park neighborhood first reported the cub in their backyard. The cub, which appeared to weigh about 100 pounds, left the backyard and was later seen in the Flower Bin.
The cub went out the back of the garden store and didn’t cause any damage, Wheeler said. Police stopped traffic on Nelson Road so the cub could cross the street, and it was last spotted at Golden Ponds near Third Avenue.
She said there was no sign of the cub’s mother. Animal control is asking anyone who spots the cub to give it space. Colorado Parks and Wildlife also has been notified.
“We think the cub is trying to find Saint Vrain (River),” Wheeler said. “There’s a lot of people and he’s scared. He doesn’t know what to do.”
