Students' work on display with downtown flower baskets - Gallatin News

More than 100 hanging flower baskets made by local high school students are once again lining the streets of downtown Gallatin.

The baskets, which were put on display last week, were assembled by more than 40 students from Gallatin and Station Camp High schools earlier this year.

“For the most part, the kids especially enjoy seeing them start from something so small to get to this,” Station Camp agriculture teacher Ally Choate said about the flowers. “Plus, actually getting to see their work on display in the public is a pretty cool thing.”

The city, which pays for the supplies, began partnering with both schools to build the baskets in 2019 as a way to reduce the overall cost of the project which had previously been contracted out to local nurseries.

For their work, the city donates $550 to the Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapters at each school.

“I think everyone who visits Gallatin appreciates the hard work that the students at Station Camp and Gallatin High School put into these flower baskets,” Mayor Paige Brown said. “It brightens up the downtown and makes us all feel pride in our hometown.”

The flower baskets are expected to remain on display until later this fall.
