The U.S. Postal Service motto is “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.”
And the Fairfield Police Department apparently had a new temporary one on Sunday: “No DUI arrest of a flower courier will stop deliveries on Mother’s Day.”
Dispatched at about 12:30 p.m. on a report of a minor collision, officers arrived on scene, in the 2200 block of North Texas Street, just as the driver tried to leave, Lt. Jausiah Jacobsen, the police department’s public information officer, said Monday.
Officers detained Mark Aranda, 30, of Fairfield, arrested him on suspicion of DUI, and he was booked into Solano County Jail.
Officers towed the vehicle, which contained “eight to 10” bouquets destined for delivery on a warm, flower-wilting day, noted Jacobsen.
Luckily, the delivery manifest, with addresses and a schedule, was found inside the vehicle, he said, adding that several officers then pitched in to complete the deliveries on that special day for mothers, motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society.
The arrest and officers’ actions made Bay Area TV newscasts Sunday evening and prompted posts on several social media platforms with plentiful comments, noted Jacobsen.
“Nothing but great comments,” he added. “It’s the softer side of police work.”
