FARGO — Mother's day is this weekend and if your looking to buy a bouquet for mom expect to pay higher prices.
Local florists say a flower shortage is hitting the nation.
Industry experts say when the pandemic first hit last summer, flower farms across the world shut down. As the industry picks back up, many flower farms are having trouble meeting the demand.
Locally, Shotwell Floral and Greenhouse says they're able to keep up with the current demand, but that might not be the case as the shortage continues.
"You know right now we've gotten in a bunch of flowers. We have a lot back there, a lot ready to go," said owner J.D. Shotwell. "We're just praying and hoping for the best."
Shotwell says the flower shortage already impacted prom as he had to turn some people away, and he thinks it will have a big impact on brides this wedding season.
