SMITHFIELD — Each year, the Dirt Diggers 4-H club fills the flower bed at Friendship Park with different flowers and plants.

Earlier this year, club members were devastated to find out not even a full day after they had completed the project, the flowers had been destroyed.

Friday, with help from local businesses and supporters of the club donating flowers, the club gathered to replace the colorful staple of the park.

The club is overseen by advisors Chrissy Crawford and Kathy Supanik and has more than 25 members.

Information from the club said the flowers were also stolen from the bed in 2019.

The flower bed at the park has been used for things like senior and dance pictures.

Roger Wells of West End Excavating donated mulch to the original project.

Branson Stats, a release from the club noted, had complimented the work done originally.

J.R. and Shawna Lerby of It’s All Good Farms donated flowers, 4-H members past and presents also donated flowers and their time to replacing the flowers. Mount Pleasant Farms donated a flag pole and the Tilted Toilet of Bellaire donated a flag.

“The support from the community says so much and is overwhelming,” Crawford said in the release from the club. “Our club will continue to make the best better. We have an a amazing group of kids and parents that put their effort into the community.

“We are proud of our members to rise above this type of devastation. Our club is one bit family and things like this make us a lot closer.”

A plaque was placed at the flower bed thanking those who donated, supported and assisted in replacing the flowers.

A sign was also placed that says “Please enjoy don’t destroy!”

“It’s wonderful for the community to come together and help us,” Supanik said. “We just want people to respect the hard work from our club and enjoy the flower bed.”
