13 apply for Flower Mound Council vacancy - The Cross Timbers Gazette

Quite a few Flower Mound residents want to fill a vacant seat on Flower Mound Town Council that will expire in less than a year.

Former Place 1 Councilman Jim Pierson resigned unexpectedly May 12 via email, effective immediately. After his resignation, it was learned that he is under criminal investigation, but law enforcement has not said why he is being investigated. The Denton County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that it has taken over the investigation at the request of the Flower Mound Police Department. Pierson has not responded to requests for comment.

Pierson’s Place 1 Town Council seat doesn’t expire until May 2022, and Town Council will appoint someone to fill the vacancy. Town Council will interview applicants on Tuesday and/or June 2 and may make its official appointment on one of those dates or soon after. The appointed council member will serve the remainder of the unexpired term, which will be up for election in less than a year.

The deadline to apply passed on Monday night, and 13 people submitted applications, including current mayor Steve Dixon, who will be replaced by either Derek France or Itamar Gelbman in the mayoral runoff election on June 5.

Among the 12 other applicants are three former Town Council members: Kevin Bryant, Tim Trotter and Jason Webb. Three other applicants have experience on a town board or commission: Kent Johnson (Board of Adjustment, Oil & Gas Board of Appeals), Adam Schiestel (Planning & Zoning Commission, Transportation Commission) and Kathryn Wells (Environmental Conservation Commission). The six other applicants are Sheila Coombes, Paul Delcioppo, Ray Hurley, Kevin Imming, Michael Leisure and Melbourne Presswood.

Delcioppo and Leisure indicated in their applications that they plan to run for office in 2022, if appointed. Dixon, Bryant, Trotter, Webb and Johnson said no, they would not plan to run in 2022 if appointed. Coombes, Hurley, Imming, Presswood, Schiestel and Wells marked “undecided.”
