Anthuriums, commonly known as flamingo flowers (Anthurium andraeanum), are popular plants for the home or office.
The flowers of the anthurium are made up of a spadix (a spike) and a spathe (a modified leaf or bract). The spathe is waxy in texture and can last more than eight weeks.
A new variety of anthuriums is the Livium, which was released on the market in late 2019. The spathe are distinctive with red and white stripes. The dark-green leaves are about four to six inches long and heart-shaped, with a six- to eight-inch-long leaf petiole.
To keep anthuriums healthy and happy, they should be kept in a spot with bright, indirect light and watered only when the soil is dry to the touch. Browning flowers and leaves should be pruned away. See Livium anthuriums throughout the interior spaces within Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens.
