Customers flocked to the Route 443 flower tent in Lehighton this past weekend hoping to buy some flowers for the Easter holiday.

Jordan Cummins, daughter of the tent owner, said she has been working at the flower tent for six years now and that her mother has owned the stand for 25 years.

The flowers sold at the stand are sourced from both local greenhouses as well as ones near New Jersey. In addition to the variety of flowers, the tent also sells items such as candles, wax melts, shea butter soap and garden accessories.

When asked which flowers were the most popular for the Easter season, Cummins said most people were buying tulips, Easter lilies and lots of hyacinths.

“The hyacinths are the most fragrant, so that’s usually what people tend toward.”

Susan Ungerer was one person who bought these hyacinths as well as some tulips.

A resident of Emmaus, Ungerer said she was in the Lehighton area in order to receive her second COVID-19 vaccine at the Rite Aid pharmacy. When she first drove into town she said she saw this beautiful stand and decided to buy some flowers for her parents’ graves for Easter.

Ungerer said the hyacinths did in fact smell wonderful and that her shopping experience at the stand was an overall positive one, noting that she would come again if she was in the area.

“The flowers are gorgeous. I mean the quality that they have up here is beautiful. It’s been so cold a lot of places haven’t had flowers lately.”

The tent always opens up for the spring season 10 days before Easter. Following the Easter holiday, Cummins said the flower tent will briefly close and then reopen 10 days before Mother’s Day, remaining open until June.

“We’ll be back 10 days before Mother’s Day with Mother’s Day flowers and all of the hanging baskets and bedding plants to go along with them,” Cummins said.

Albrightsville Volunteer Fire Company was also selling flowers at Pine Point Plaza on Friday and Saturday.

They sold out of 10 dozen flowers and will be back on Mother’s Day weekend.
