MEDFORD, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — A South Jersey small business owner is holding a donation drive Sunday in Medford to collect items for care packages to troops deployed overseas.
This is the third year of the program. Founder and flower shop owner December Giberson-Shover said they are looking for non-perishable food items and personal care products to give the troops comforts from home. They are looking for toothbrushes, feminine care and hygiene products - and snacks, of course.
"We try to gather as many of those things as we can," she said, "and when a family calls and says, 'Hey, my loved one is deployed to Syria,' if they are able to give us an address, then a package is shipped to them at no charge."
Giberson-Shover said students from nearby schools wrote letters thanking the troops for their service, which will be placed into the boxes. She said they also accept financial donations to help with shipping costs.
Dropoffs are accepted Sunday, March 28, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at A Rose in December Custom Floral Shop, located at 629 Stokes Road, Medford, NJ 08055.
You can also call (609) 654-7333 to make a donation.
