Loveland Community Briefs for March 20: Book sales, flower sales and more - Loveland Reporter-Herald

Upcoming events in the Loveland area include a Friends of the Library book sale, two flower sales and a theater performance that will benefit Crossroads Safehouse.

Friends Book Sale

The Friends of the Loveland Public Library will hold a used book sale Wednesday-Saturday, March 24-27, in the Gertrude Scott Room at Loveland Public Library, 300 N. Adams Ave., Loveland.

Genres included will be items from the group’s Volunteers Recommend category (mostly fiction), romance, science fiction/fantasy/horror, and Westerns.

Sale times are 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, and 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

AAUW Flower Sale

The Loveland chapter of American Association of University Women’s Flower Sale will have a new look this year.

The group will be taking orders for geraniums as well as nursery gift cards through April 19. Hanging baskets, gallons and quarts are available in a variety of colors. Gift cards from Flowers for 3, a local Johnstown nursery will be on sale for $25, $50 and $100, offering access to a huge selection of vegetables, herbs, annuals and perennials.

Flowers and gift cards will be ready for curbside pickup at 9 a.m. to noon May 8 at 1431 Allison Drive, Loveland. Deliveries available upon request.

All proceeds go toward scholarships for deserving local women pursuing a graduate degree. This will also support two community nurseries during this difficult time.

PEO-FL Flower Sale

PEO Chapter FL wilk take orders through May 3 for its annual PEO-FL Flower Sale.

Hanging baskets, flowering pots, grasses, tomatoes, and individual plants are available.

The flower sale raises funds for educational scholarships for deserving women in the Loveland area.

Flowers will be available to pick up on May 13. Home delivery is also available.

‘Pelting Mangoes’ reception rescheduled

The reception for the “Pelting Mangoes” exhibit at Artworks Center for Contemporary Art, 310 N. Railroad Ave., Loveland, has been rescheduled to 1-3 p.m. April 10.

Reservations for the reception can be made at artworksloveland.org/peltingmangoes.

The exhibit opened March 12 and runs through April 24.

The exhibit re-scripts and re-signifies colonial portraits of Indian women during a period of 19th-century indentureship in Trinidad and Tobago

In addition to the reception, an in-person and online artist talk will be offered at 3-4 p.m. April 10. The Zoom link is https://bit.ly/3c1JwCr.

Artworks gallery hours are 1-4 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and noon-4 p.m. Saturday.

‘Natural Shocks’

Open Stage Theatre Co., in partnership with Playhaus Productions, is presenting “Natural Shocks” Lauren Gunderson through March 26.

Hunkered down in her basement, a woman awaiting an impending tornado holds the audience captive as she reminisces and reflects on her life leading to that moment, ultimately divulging the truth behind the storm she is weathering.

The show, directed by Debbie Swann, is based on Hamlet’s “to be or not to be” soliloquy and emphasizes the need for taking action in times of crisis.

It contains themes of domestic abuse and gun violence.
Half of the proceeds of ticket sales and all donations will benefit Crossroads Safehouse in Fort Collins.
