Of course, they can only bloom if they have flower buds. The shrub and tree species that can be forced are those that developed buds last summer or fall to be ready to bloom in early spring. They include cherry, plum, magnolia, lilac, pussy willow, crab apple, Cornelian-cherry dogwood, forsythia, flowering quince, redbud, serviceberry and witch hazel.
