The day before Valentine’s Day, dozens of eye-catching trucks and cars parked up and down MacDonald Avenue near DeJean Middle School as part of a heartfelt effort to give love to a local small business.

On Saturday, Feb., 13, Algoleve Bay Area Truck Club partnered with Team Tumbados Truck Club to organize a promotion for Juanita’s Flower Shop at 3407 Macdonald Ave., said Johnathan Ramirez, Richmond resident and president of the Algoleve Bay Area Truck Club.

“Our truck and car clubs like to encourage the community to support our businesses locally here in Richmond and the surrounding areas,” Ramirez said. “What we organized was the truck and car clubs from Richmond and around the Bay Area to become a flash mob and help buy things off the shelves at Juanita’s Flower Shop here in Richmond.”

While flowers were purchased, sweet bread and hot chocolate were passed out to car and truck club members and customers. Juanita Lopes, owner of the flower shop, raffled a $250 floral bouquet to one lucky attendee.

“I was so impressed with how many people I saw coming to my flower shop,” Lopes said, adding, “There must have been several hundred from Richmond and all over the Bay Area who came to support and buy from my flower shop. I want to thank everybody who came, the truck and car clubs along with the customers. Thank you for making us feel special and your support.”

Added Ramirez, ” During the COVID-19 pandemic the community must stay united even though we are going through tough times. It is highly important to support our local businesses.”

Juanita’s Flower Shop specializes in flowers for all occasions, such as weddings, birthdays, funerals, get-well flowers and seasonal flowers. For more information, visit the business’ website here.
