The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society has reimagined the Philadelphia Flower Show for 2021. The horticultural show, which is the nation’s largest and longest-running, will be held from June 5 through 13 at FDR Park.

The Flower Show is usually held in March and has become the city’s harbinger of Spring. Even though the show has been known to coincide with snow storms, it’s a sign that longer and warmer days are not too far in the future. In 2021, the show will be held from June 5 through 13.

And for the first time in its nearly two century history, the Flower Show will be held outdoors. This will allow for new creative expression and horticultural displays as well as social distancing. Tickets will be date specific and timed.

The show will be held in FDR Park, 1500 Pattison Avenue at South Broad Street, near the sports complex in South Philadelphia. The park was designed in 1914 and is a registered historic district with walkable paths, breath-taking views and a network of lakes. The park is accessible by mass transit and car. The Flower Show will be spread over 15 acres of the 348 acre park.

“We are thrilled to be able to celebrate the outdoors and offer joy and beauty after a year that has been marked by so many challenges, said Sam Lemheney, PHS Chief of Shows & Events. “This experience is a wonderful example of the enduring and combined power of green space, plants, and gardeners to create impact and inspiration.” Lemheney is a West Chester resident.

The show raises money to support PHS programs including those that bolster food security and the canopy in communities that have been disproportionally impacted by the pandemic.
