JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — There’s a shop off Beach Boulevard, before it merges to Atlantic Blvd., that catches the eye of almost every driver due to it’s enormous and colorful window display that changes with every holiday - Kuhn Flowers.

“We have the animations, we have the things that actually speak stories and sing, so that’s been a big drawl, always has been for Kuhns and that’s kinda what they’re known for around Christmas time,” Tony Swick said.

Tony Swick is the Vice President of Kuhn Flowers, and says that when he first joined the company three years ago, he was surprised to see families bring in their grandchildren to the display windows, saying that it was tradition for them. And that tradition hasn’t stopped for many families.

“It’s an honor to be part of that tradition. To be able to install these things and decorate them and change them every year has been fun,” Swick said.

Over the past few days, Swick says that hundreds of floral arrangements were made in the past few days for early Christmas deliveries.

“Long days, long hours, but that’s what we are here for. Kuhns keeps celebrating the tradition of the flowers in Jacksonville and we have since the inception of the business and we look forward to many years ahead,” Swick said.

The shop opened in Jacksonville in 1947 and has grown from one family-owned store to one of the largest floral stores in Jacksonville. There are currently three stores in North Florida under the Kuhn Flowers name. All three are extremely busy as Christmas is tomorrow, and flowers are the seemingly perfect gift to send to family and friends when you can’t visit them in person.

The pandemic has made things difficult for the business, especially at the beginning of the outbreak, but it allowed for them to find new ways to continue to operate.

“This year Kuhn Flowers remodeled for the first time in probably thirty plus years, bringing in a large selection of gifts that we never had before. We had focused only of fresh flowers and plants previously,” Swick said. “We’ve changed our strategy just a little bit. We created a beautiful cooler display where Kuhns before had floor display, so we now have it where clients can walk into a European-style cooler. The gift selection now has high-end items as well as everyday items.”
