PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) -
Flower lovers are in for a treat Saturday, with Ted promising a beautiful day for the fifth annual Flower Garden Tour. The event serves as a fundraiser for the GIFT Food Pantry.
A total of seven gardens will be open to the public, from noon to 4 p.m. Garden locations include Parkhurst Siding Road, Coventry Court, Lombard Street, Centerline Road, Niles Road, Howard Street, and the Mark & Emily Turner Memorial Library.
“Charlene and I belong to a church group and one day she said - at one of the meetings during the meeting she said ‘What do you think about a garden tour for raising money for GIFT? And she said ‘Do you think we could do it?’ And I said ‘We could try.’ And five years later we’ve been very successful,” says Anne Hemphill.
“We’re raising money for GIFT, which is Grace Interfaith Food Table on Industrial Street. We have done this - this will be our fifth garden tour. And it’s a nice way for people to give and still enjoy something for their money,” says Charlene Buzza.
Gardens include a variety of flowers and garden decor. Buzza says the pantry supplies food for about 120 people each week. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at any of the gardens, with each garden address on each ticket. All proceeds going to the pantry. Participants are eligible for $25 gift certificate to Myrtle Tree. Last year’s tour raised around $900.
*The event reportedly raised just over $1,000 for GIFT, which will be used to purchase food for distribution to families in need.
