After a forced hiatus of several months, Assistance League of Rancho San Dieguito has resumed delivery of flowers to senior care centers. Under a program called “neighborhood share,” volunteers gather excess flowers from local community partners. They then arrange the flowers in donated vases and deliver them to senior care centers.
Usually 12 to 15 volunteers assemble and transport about 90 flower arrangements three times a year to six different centers, but this year, the May project was canceled. This month, to allow for social distancing, only three volunteers – Linda Kermott, Carol Tuggey and Donna Buys-- gathered to assemble 19 bouquets and delivered them to two facilities. Each bouquet is tagged with a card that says, “Flowers donated by the Assistance League of Rancho San Dieguito.”
ALRSD is vested in the education of children through other programs such as Operation School Bell. ALRSD raises funds through its Thrift Shop in Encinitas, fundraising events, individual and corporate donations, and community and government grants. Funds are returned to the community through philanthropic programs that serve children and adults. Membership is open to everyone. Visit www.alrsd.org
