The Flower Mound Chamber of Commerce recognized many local leaders and businesses at its 39th Annual Awards Luncheon on Friday.
Ginger Eads was named Citizen of the Year “for her outstanding dedication to the chamber and community as well as her leadership as board chair for Medical City Lewisville,” according to a chamber news release.
“I have known Ginger for probably 30 years and she has been deserving of this award for years,” said local attorney Chuck Elsey, the 2013 Citizen of the Year. “She has brought so much to the community and non-profits and is very involved with the chambers.”

Denton County Judge Andy Eads honored the two local hospitals — Texas Health Presbyterian Flower Mound and Medical City Lewisville — with Community Excellence Awards for their dedication to caring for our community members.
The President’s Awards were presented to Mixed Media Creations and Circle R Ranch for their contributions to the chamber in the past year. Other award recipients included Independent Financial (Business of the Year), Michele Diaz, Print Signs Promo (Volunteer of the Year), Darrell Pattillo, RevLocal (Ambassador of the Year) and Morgan Orlando, IMA Select (Rookie of the Year).

IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. -- The South Bay Union School District Board voted this week to hold off on returning to in-person learning until July 26, saying survey results showed parents are still split on distance learning.
In a letter to parents, administrators said roughly half of district families want to keep having kids learn from home and the other half want to return to in-person school days, according to their poll.
Massachusetts singer-songwriter Ella Williams, a.k.a. Squirrel Flower, will release a new album called Planet (i) this summer. The follow-up to her 2020 debut album, I Was Born Swimming, which earned her a spot as a Rolling Stone Artist You Need to Know, arrives June 25th on Polyvinyl Records.

In a statement, Williams explained that she wrote the lyrics in character: “‘Hurt a Fly’ is me embodying a persona of gaslighting, narcissistic soft-boy type shit. The classic, ‘Sorry I acted violently, I’m not mad that you got upset at me, wanna hang out next week?’ I wanted to see what it was like to be a character trying to skirt around accountability. It’s an angry and unhinged song.”
In the music video for “Hurt a Fly,” directed by Ryan Schnackenberg, Williams rolls around on the ground in a plastic bubble (sort of like a more psychologically unsettling version of the ones Flaming Lips use at their shows). The press statement includes a tale of an odd occurrence at the video shoot: “A stranger filmed me practicing choreography at a public park, submitted it to a meme page making fun of ‘influencers,’ and the video got 1,000,000 views, which in my mind is perfect thematically.”
Squirrel Flower recorded Planet (i) in Bristol, England, with producer Ali Chant and musicians including Portishead’s Adrian Utley. In her Artist You Need to Know interview last year, Williams mentioned some of the themes she was thinking about for her next LP: “I’d say now my relationship with water is one of being in awe and being terrified by the power of it. BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A family driving down Rosedale Highway on Sunday stopped to help a flower vendor who was being attacked by a man who was panhandling in the area. The family recorded the incident and shared those videos on social media, which have now gone viral.
On March 28, Felícito Chávez was selling flowers on the side of Rosedale Highway in the area between Buck Owens Boulevard and Oak Street to make ends meet. Chávez had several buckets filled with flowers to sell. The man approached him and threw a bucket onto the road.
Gabriel Baez said he and his family were driving eastbound when they saw the incident. They turned their car around and stopped to assist Chávez. Baez said he immediately called 911. The videos show the family approached the man and told him to leave Chávez alone.
“That’s enough. You’re not going to be doing this just because you want money. He’s working!” Baez’s wife Miriam Acuario said a video posted to TikTok. “Get your flowers, nobody is going to do nothing.”
Baez said others saw what was going on and got off their cars to try to help. The man ran off but kept returning, according to Baez. The people who got off to help tried to run the man off for good. After everyone left, the Baez family stayed behind because they wanted to see the man get arrested.
In one of the videos posted by Baez’s daughter, Chávez shows the family a bruise on his chest that was left in the attack. He also tells the family that his backpack with identification have been stolen in the past while trying to sell flowers.

Baez said the Bakersfield Police Department arrived on scene around 45 minutes later. By that time, the homeless man had ran off eastbound towards the riverbank. Bakersfield Police told 17 News the scene had been cleared out when they arrived.
Due to the area where the unit was responding from and traffic, it took that unit 11 minutes to arrive in the area. That unit circulated the area for 42 minutes, trying to locate any involved persons. We strongly urge the victim to contact us.

The Greater Kokomo Downtown Association is seeking volunteers to help with its annual Keep Kokomo Beautiful project.
Each year, Keep Kokomo Beautiful enlists the help of volunteers to plant flower beds and baskets all around the downtown area. This year, Kokomo’s new basketball team, the Kokomo Bobkats, will help with the project.
The first day for planting will be Thursday, April 8, when volunteers will fill baskets to be hung later in the spring. Volunteers will meet at 4476 S. 00 EW at The Garden Greenhouse.
Participants are encouraged to dress in layers that can get dirty and are encouraged to bring work gloves, knee pads, and their favorite gardening tools to each event. Participants are strongly encouraged to wear face masks while volunteering.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A family driving down Rosedale Highway on Sunday stopped to help a flower vendor who was being attacked by a man who was panhandling in the area. The family recorded the incident and shared those videos on social media, which have now gone viral.
On March 28, Felicitó Chávez was selling flowers on the side of Rosedale Highway in the area between Buck Owens Boulevard and Oak Street to make ends meet. Chávez had several buckets filled with flowers to sell. The man approached him and threw a bucket onto the road.
Gabriel Baez said he and his family were driving eastbound when they saw the incident. They turned their car around and stopped to assist Chávez. Baez said he immediately called 911. The videos show the family approached the man and told him to leave Chávez alone.
“That’s enough. You’re not going to be doing this just because you want money. He’s working!” Baez’s wife Miriam Acuario said a video posted to TikTok. “Get your flowers, nobody is going to do nothing.”
Baez said others saw what was going on and got off their cars to try to help. The man ran off but kept returning, according to Baez. The people who got off to help tried to run the man off for good. After everyone left, the Baez family stayed behind because they wanted to see the man get arrested.
In one of the videos posted by Baez’s daughter, Chávez shows the family a bruise on his chest that was left in the attack. He also tells the family that his backpack with identification have been stolen in the past while trying to sell flowers.

Baez said the Bakersfield Police Department arrived on scene around 45 minutes later. By that time, the homeless man had ran off eastbound towards the riverbank. Bakersfield Police told 17 News the scene had been cleared out when they arrived.
Due to the area where the unit was responding from and traffic, it took that unit 11 minutes to arrive in the area. That unit circulated the area for 42 minutes, trying to locate any involved persons. We strongly urge the victim to contact us.
BUCKHANNON, W.Va (WDTV) - The power of a simple gesture that one Upshur County woman is helping support her older community members.
Inspired by memories of her grandmother, Laura Foulks decided to deliver seasonal bouquets to older adults in the county’s nursing homes and hospice patients. Foulks says the idea for this project came one day while she was sitting in her apartment that happens to be above Anita’s flower shop.
“I just thought that sending the flowers would be a great idea so I had contacted the medical director of Holbrook’s nursing home to find out if that would be alright to send flowers in and he gave me the ok on it so I contacted Anita’s and asked if they’d be interested,” said Foulks. “They were all about it they that it was a great idea.”

If you’re new to the transplant game, start with a flower or vegetable that’s relatively easy to raise from seed. Zinnia, calendula and cosmos are some of the easiest. Among vegetables, choose from among lettuce, kale, cabbage and — that most widely grown vegetable of all — tomato.
There are some vegetables which shouldn't be grown as transplants. Beans, peas and okra fall into that category because the yield is small from each plant. Outdoors, in the garden, you sow these plants in a furrow with seeds only a few inches apart. That would take a lot of transplants! For some other vegetables, such as carrots and parsnips, the roots don’t take kindly to being transplanted.
Better to hone your transplant-raising skills with a plant that really does need to be grown this way, such as tomatoes. In much of the country, we need to start tomatoes indoors so the plants have enough time to ripen a decent yield out in the garden.
GERMINATION
To get started with transplants, you’ll need a suitable container and soil. The container need not — should not — be too big, but does need to be 2 to 4 inches deep. Plastic yogurt containers are good, even egg cartons (for “jumbo” eggs), and, of course, those cell packs in which your purchased transplants once lived. Perhaps you still have some lying around.
Most important is that any container have one or more holes in the bottom, so excess water can drain out.
Garden soil, even good garden soil, is not suitable because it doesn’t drain quickly enough in the confines of a container. Drainage of a “potting mix” (“potting soil”) is enhanced by the inclusion of some coarse material such as perlite, vermiculite or sand. If you have little experience raising transplants, buy a potting mix. It will already have the drainage material mixed in.
Fill the containers with the potting mix and firm it down. Not too much, though.
Then sow seeds, 3 or 4 per container or cell, as insurance. Do this by poking a hole a few times the thickness of a seed into the mix, and drop in the seed. Smooth over the potting mix to cover the seeds, and firm it again.
Water the container by standing it in a pan with water reaching about half as high as the height of the container. After a few hours, lift the container up out of the water.
Seeds need warmth to germinate, the amount varying with the kind of seed. A good average for just about all seeds is about 75° F. Beyond their optimum germination temperatures, seeds will still germinate, but more slowly.
Most seeds don’t need light to germinate. So a suitable place is almost anywhere in your home. Some refrigerators are warm on top; that could be a suitable place. Same for near a radiator. A thermostatically controlled seed mat offers more control.
To keep moisture from evaporating from your container, cover it with a pane of clear glass or plastic, or enclose the container in a plastic bag.
THE EXCITEMENT BEGINS
Now for the exciting part, waiting to see little, green sprouts. Remove all but the sturdiest sprout from each container or cell, being careful not to disturb the roots of the sprout that remains.
Your goal now is to grow sturdy, stocky transplants that can tolerate a move to the great outdoors. For this, you need abundant light and cooler temperatures. Even tomatoes, a summer vegetable, grow best as transplants with temperatures in the 60s.
Don't worry if you can't achieve ideal growing conditions; what’s possible in a commercial greenhouse often isn’t feasible in a home.
A sunny, south-facing window works well, especially if it's in a cool room. Rotate the plants daily so they grow uniformly, rather than one side always bending towards the light.
Another option for light is a grow-light, either fluorescent or LED. Although these lights look bright, they don’t compare with good ol’ sunshine. Light intensity falls off rapidly with distance from a light, so keep the light just a few inches above the plants. Or combine a sunny window and a grow-light.
Be careful not to overwater or underwater. I lift a container and its weight tells me if water is needed. The ideal for stocky growth is keeping plants just slightly underwatered.
In four to six weeks, most transplants should be two to three times the height of their containers, stocky and ready for the outdoors. Or almost ready. Acclimate them to their future environment with a week of being outdoors somewhere shielded from the full brunt of sun, wind and cold. Then plant them in the garden.
And perhaps you’ll be inspired next year to grow more of your own transplants.

The following flowers work as offerings to Barbatos, but you need to make sure they're actually in your inventory or you'll add an extra step to your quest.

It doesn't matter which flower you choose from the ones above. The quest will progress the same way. Pick whatever you feel is most appropriate for your character—or whatever is already in your inventory if you want to speed things along.
Genshin Impact flower choice: Next steps
After selecting your flower, Venti will suggest you move to another location. Simply follow the map markers that appear at Stormterror's Lair. You'll eventually reach an energy dome populated with hilichurls guarding Anemo totems.
Once the area is clear, activate the Anemo totems with Anemo abilities (wind) in the following order:

Right
Left
Once you've completed the puzzle, Venti will have another short conversation with you and you'll complete the quest.
